BuildBase is a small Sydney software and IT services company. We already look after the websites and systems for a number of local builders — which is how we ended up here.
We kept hearing the same thing from builders whose systems we already ran. Not "I need better software" — nobody says that. What they said was that they'd spent Tuesday morning on the phone finding out what happened on Monday.
Then we'd hear the other half of it from the trades: that they'd already done the work, already knew what was finished, and were being asked to explain it three times to three different people — then argue about it again at claim time.
Both sides had the same information. It just had nowhere to live where they could both see it. Every tool we looked at picked a side — built for the builder with the subbie as a guest, or built for the trade with no room for the builder at all. So we started building the thing in between.
The builder and the trade are equals on the same job. Any tool where one party owns the file and the other visits it will end up back on the phone. That's an architecture decision, and we made it first.
If you pause before adding the tiler because it costs more, we've broken our own product. A partial picture of a site is worse than no picture, because you can't tell "not done" from "not entered".
Software doesn't fail on features, it fails in week two when nobody's had time to roll it out. So we come to site, set it up, and train the crews. That's not support — it's the product.
You'll deal with one of us directly — not an account manager, not a ticket queue.
Works with the builders — what they need, what they'll actually use, and what the market's already got covered. Spends more time on sites than in the office.
Runs the build and the roadmap. Decides what we make ourselves, what we plug into, and what we're better off leaving alone.
We'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. Here's exactly where things stand.
We went through twenty products serving Australian builders and trades. The affordable ones are single-sided. The genuinely two-sided ones start around $299 a month or go straight to enterprise. Nothing sits in between.
Checklists, the builder dashboard, claims, private job posting, crew access levels. Enough to put in a tradie's hand and find out what's wrong with it.
Real jobs, every trade on them, free for the first year. In exchange we want the honest version of what doesn't work.
Progress claims built from tick-off data, Xero connected, then the front half — enquiries, quotes, follow-ups and the client history that currently disappears after two years.
If you build in Sydney and something on this site doesn't match your experience, we genuinely want to hear it. That's more useful to us right now than a sale.
